Redfern Photography specializes in high quality portraiture and custom transformative artwork. Our clientelle includes; high school seniors, couples and families, infants and children and mature singles. We write and design original story books for young children and offer profile writing and editing services for singles online.

The studio is located in Grass Valley, California (Nevada County). It is approximately two miles from Nevada Union High School and twenty miles from Bear River High School.

The outdoor portrait park - designed for optimum lighting for outdoor portraiture - is just a few steps from the studio. It was developed to provide a wide variety of looks and moods that reflect and represent the flavor of the local community. Each garden area is designed for artistic balance so that the subject is highlighted to his or her best advantage. The portrait park features mine rock walls, a waterfall, a reflection pond, several bridges, large quartz boulders, pine and maple trees, a cascading abundance of Virginia Creeper, a fern grotto, grass, and a variety flower beds. Every year, the landscape is developed so that there is always something new.

Because the portrait park is on the same property as the studio, we make efficient use of everyone's time. We've got the looks of Empire Mine and the rivers and parks without having to transport our clients, ourselves and all of the equipment to those locations. We have the facilities, props and every piece of equipment right at our fingertips. Plus, we have our studio designed for almost instantaneous image viewing in a theatre-like setting right after the portrait session.

The formula for our success lies in our warm, friendly atmosphere, the unique setting, the experience and knowledge of the photographers, and the expertise of our in-house color manager and digital artists. Clients are encouraged to be involved with and excited about their portrait sessions. Bringing personal items such as sports equipment, cars, pets or special mementos ads a lot of fun, energy and creativity to the time we spend together...and the more fun we all have the more sparkle comes through in the images.

Some of the most rewarding times we have as photographers is to share the emotion and excitement that our clients feel as they view the images we have created for them. To show someone their beauty, sometimes for the first time, is one of life's best accomplishments as far as the Redferns are concerned.

To stay fresh and up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technology advances, the Redferns are continually involved with market research and education at workshops, seminars, and professional photography conferences.

Family Portrait Clothing Tips:
By following these simple tips, you can make the most of this opportunity to create an emotionally stirring piece of art for your home.
Clothing
Choose clothing for everyone in the family so that the group, as a whole, looks
harmonious and pleasing.
-Choose clothing with solid colors and / or very small patterns.
-Avoid wearing white, stripes and loud, busy patterns. This applies to shirts, pants, socks and skirts.
-Long sleeved shirts, tops and dresses look better than short sleeved ones. Long pants and skirts also look better than short ones.
-Make sure clothing is as wrinkle free as possible.
Shine Reduction
Oil on skin looks like shinny white spots in portraits. To reduce shine, apply a light dusting of baby powder or cosmetic powder to everyone's face. Spots most likely to shine are noses, cheeks, chins, foreheads, and the tops of hair free heads.
Glasses
The glare from lenses in glasses can obscure the eyes beneath. To reduce the occurrence of glass glare, check to see if you have a glare resistant coating on your lenses, remove the lenses from the frames, or ask your optometrist if you can temporarily borrow a set of frames like the ones you usually wear.
Young Children & Family Pets
Small children under 3 years old and family pets require special attention. Please let us know in advance if your family group includes them.
